The Visitors Archive

The Visitors is an ongoing project for which I am making portraits of willing visitors to various cultural, historical, or recreational sites on the island of Oahu.  Subjects are portrayed in candid moments or in postures and settings that mimic historical (primarily 19th century) portrait motifs.  I hope that upon becoming the subject of my artwork or viewing their contemporaries as the subject, visitors will be encouraged to examine the implications of portraiture, its inherent construction, and its effect on identity formation.
